Privacy policy: weather alerts
Effective October 18, 2026. Applies to the free weather alert service run by OH HAIL NAH!! Weather. Signups are processed by our Cloudflare-hosted alerts service at ohn-alerts.zacharydavidpowers.workers.dev and delivered by email. This policy also covers Messenger or Instagram contact information when those channels are connected; new chat delivery is not currently verified.
What we collect
- The location you give us (a ZIP code or city and state). We turn it into the matching National Weather Service county and forecast zone and an approximate point. We never ask for a street address.
- How to reach you: your email address, or the Messenger or Instagram ID that Meta gives us when you message our Page. We do not receive your name, phone number, friends or other profile data.
- Your alert choices (warning types, watches, morning brief, rain chance, delivery time) and when you last messaged us.
- A record of which alerts we sent you, so the same warning is not sent twice. Our application uses hashed IP-derived identifiers for signup rate limiting and audit records. Cloudflare processes request information, including IP addresses, to host and protect the service. We send the request IP to Cloudflare Turnstile for signup verification.
How we use it
Only to send the weather alerts and morning briefs you asked for, and to answer your messages about them. We do not sell or rent subscriber information or use it for advertising. We disclose the information needed to operate the service to our hosting, verification and delivery providers, including Cloudflare, Mailgun and Meta when the selected channel uses them. Email is sent through Mailgun. Signups are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile.
How long we keep it
While you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, your settings are kept until you ask us to delete them, so START (Messenger or Instagram) can restore delivery; for email, sign up again. Scheduled cleanup removes new, unconfirmed signups older than 7 days, sent-alert records older than 14 days, and application audit records older than 90 days. Imported legacy signup records are excluded from automatic unconfirmed-signup cleanup and require separate review.
Stopping alerts and deleting your data
Stop anytime: use the unsubscribe link in any alert email, or reply STOP on Messenger or Instagram. To erase your data, email zachary@ohhailna.com with the subject "Delete my alert data". We review deletion requests, may ask for information needed to verify control of the subscription, and confirm the scope and outcome of the request. Requests must cover records in both the legacy and replacement alert services. Any records that must be retained, including applicable provider or backup retention, will be explained in our response.
Important
Alerts come from official National Weather Service data, but this is not an official warning source. Always follow the NWS and local officials, and keep another way to get warnings, such as Wireless Emergency Alerts or a NOAA Weather Radio.
